STEM Racing is a global STEM education program supported by Formula 1, designed for the next generation. Students aged 6 to 19 take part by designing and building their own miniature F1® cars, which they race on a 20-meter straight track. But it’s not just about speed.
Participants are evaluated on a wide range of activities modeled after real F1® team operations—such as engineering, marketing, presentations, public relations, and project management. It’s a hands-on, comprehensive competition rooted in STEM education.
There are four classes, ranging from the Primary Class, ideal for beginners, to the Professional Class, where students engage in advanced technical development and full-scale team management. Students can enjoy learning through real-world experience, at a level suited to their age and goals.
As mentioned above, STEM Racing is not just about speed—it’s a competition that challenges students to build and manage a racing team, just like in Formula 1. That’s why the official competition requires team participation. (However, workshops are open to individuals.)
Bring your strengths to the table, find teammates who complement your skills, and take on the challenge together as a team.

If you have trouble finding teammates, STEM RACING JAPAN will assist you in forming a team. Please feel free to reach out to us for support.
In STEM Racing, teams divide roles among members, but it’s important not just to focus on your own tasks—you should work together and support each other as a team. This program provides a great opportunity to understand the true value of teamwork.
In STEM Racing, Fundraising is one of the official evaluation criteria in STEM Racing—and also one of the most challenging and important parts of the program.
Just like real Formula 1 teams, running a racing team requires significant financial resources. In STEM Racing, participants are expected to find their own sponsors, consider what value they can offer, and secure support. Through this process, students gain practical experience in negotiation, business thinking, and sustainable team management.
STEM Racing is not just about building a fast car. It offers a real-world simulation of launching and managing an F1® team. This is what truly sets STEM Racing apart from other STEM education programs—and what makes it such a powerful learning experience.
STEM RACING is structured into four classes based on international rules: Primary (Beginner), Entry (Introductory), Development (Intermediate), and Professional (Advanced). Participants can choose the class that best fits their goals and skill levels.
Team building is highly valued in STEM RACING, and participation in competitions generally requires forming a team of 3 to 6 members. However, workshops are open to individual participants as well.

STEMの基礎を楽しく学び、科学への興味を育む! 手を動かすことの楽しさや、工夫する力を身につけます。 Discover the joy of STEM and spark curiosity through hands-on learning! Build creativity and problem-solving skills while having fun.
In the Primary Class, students learn the fundamentals of STEM in a fun and engaging way by racing cars made from paper. We regularly offer workshops open to individuals, making it easy for anyone to join. Through crafting and designing, participants experience the excitement of creating and racing, while gaining an introduction to core STEM concepts. As more schools and teams join, we plan to hold official competitions based on the regulations of this class.
3Dプリンターを使ったカーデザインに挑戦! CADソフトの基本操作や、3Dプリンターの原理を習得します。Design your own race car with a 3D printer! Learn the basics of CAD software and how 3D printing works.
In the Entry Class, students go beyond the Primary level by designing and creating cars using 3D CAD and 3D printers. They learn basic CAD skills and printing principles while bringing their own designs to life. It’s a hands-on step into the world of making things through STEM. In competitions, teams are evaluated not only on the quality of their machines but also on presentations that showcase their ideas and efforts. While the 3D CAD workshops accept individual participants, competitions require teams of 3 to 6 students. Collaborate with teammates and develop the skills to turn ideas into reality.
車の設計・製作スキルをさらに深化! 空力特性や耐久性を向上させた高性能カーの開発に挑戦します。Take your car design and engineering skills to the next level! Challenge yourself to develop high-performance cars with improved aerodynamics and durability.
In the Development Class, students build on the foundational skills gained in the Entry Class to design and manufacture high-performance miniature cars. They take on more advanced challenges by incorporating aerodynamics, structural durability, and material optimization into their designs. In this class, not only advanced engineering and manufacturing skills, but also business activities such as sponsorship engagement and presentations, along with on-track race performance, are key evaluation criteria. This stage opens the path to the Professional Class and the World Finals. It is a critical step for teams aiming to experience more advanced team management and the full potential of STEM Racing.
CNC精密加工、材料・流体力学を活用! レギュレーションの限界に挑むレーシングカー開発します。Push the limits of regulations with CNC precision, materials science, and fluid dynamics! Develop cutting-edge racing cars using advanced engineering techniques.
The Professional Class is the most advanced category in STEM Racing, designed for experienced teams aiming to compete on the global stage. In this class, students push the boundaries of the regulations by developing high-performance race cars using CNC precision manufacturing, material science, and fluid dynamics. They are expected to produce highly accurate designs, submit detailed CAD documentation, and deliver strategic presentations and sponsorship proposals. This class is for skilled and committed teams striving to qualify for the World Finals. From professional-grade car design to business planning and sponsor engagement, this class challenges students to demonstrate the full spectrum of engineering and teamwork excellence. It is the final stage for students ready to mobilize their technical skills, creativity, and leadership to take on the world.
STEM Racing Japan is building the foundation for a new generation of hands-on STEM education through motorsport. We are currently looking for schools to join the challenge, and companies to support the next wave of innovators as sponsors and partners.
To expand access to this world-class program, we are planning to host Japan’s first National Finals in 2026.
Let’s drive the future of STEM × motorsport together. For collaboration or inquiries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
